Perfectionist Category

You fall into the group that is so self-critical that you spend more time beating yourself up than getting things done.  You are driven, have a goal in mind and yet can never seem to get there. Or at least get there in a way that you like.

You spend time chastising yourself for past mistakes. You look back at the things/relationships that you had and view them only from the point of view of what went wrong. You question how could I have done things better?

You are most motivated when you feel like you have all the information, tools, and skills you need to produce perfect work but sometimes getting all the information, tools and skills you perceive you need is what stops you from getting the job done. All the gathering of so many possibilities can leave you frozen in deciding which option to take. The fear of making the wrong choice is paralyzing to you.

Your lesson is

  • to learn from what has happened rather than judge yourself so harshly. Everyone makes mistakes.
  • In terms of expectations speak to yourself and others as you would to a small child or your best friend.
  • Be gentle with yourself, nobody is perfect, each of us is perfectly imperfect. Remind yourself of your good qualities, your kindness and be gentle with yourself.
  • The fear of getting it wrong will stop you from starting on time. You have to allow time to recheck your work so that you will be happy with it.
  • Remember to take action, even if the work is not perfect.
  • Remember when you make a mistake you can correct it but most importantly you can learn from it.
